About the Designer
After honing his craft at Fendi and then as Emanuel Ungaro’s successor, Giambattista Valli launched his eponymous collection in 2005. The Italian designer—who wears a signature strand of pearls—is lauded for his high-drama evening dresses, which are oftentimes found on the red carpet, thanks to Valli girls Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman, and Zoe Saldana. In answer to the demand for his luxurious gowns—Valli is also a favorite amongst the European jet set crowd—the designer launched a haute couture collection in 2011. Animal prints, feminine details like ruffles and bows, and play with volume and proportion all stay close to the heart of his designs.
