브랜드 소개에 앞서 디자이너 'Rick Owens'에 대하여 간략히 소개하자면 릭오웬스는 남부 캘리포니아 출신으로 LA에서록 스타들의 옷을 만들어주는 인디 디자이너로 활동하면서 1994년에 릭 오웬스라는 자신의 레이블을 런칭했고,2003년에는 피렌체의 모피 브랜드 레빌론의 크리에이티브 디렉터로 발탁되
어 유럽으로 무대를 옮겼다.


릭 오웬스의 스타일
 릭오웬스는 독특한 "자신만의 세계에서 그의 이상을 옷으로 표현한다."라는 말이 맞을 정도로 릭오웬스가 제시하는 옷은 스스로 시대를 관통하는 일관성을 가지고 있다. 그의 옷들은 독특한 패턴기법과 무채색 계열의 컬러로 고스한 느낌을 증폭시키며 가죽과 모피소재를 다루는데 천재적인 솜씨를 발휘한다. 왜 릭오웬스 가죽자켓이 스타들에게 인기가 있는지 알수 있다. 여성복의 경우 가죽소재와 락의 영향을 받아 릭오웬스를 입은 여성들은 공격적으로 보일 수 있다고 생각 한다면 큰 오산이다.그의 독특한 패턴기법과 아내를 사랑하는 마음은 여성을 우아하며 고급스럽게 표현해준다.남성복의 경우에도 여성복과 마찬가지로 무조건 적인 남성의 터프함 보다는 품위를 생각하며 디자인 한다는 그의 느낌이 자연스럽게 반영되어 컬렉션을 보면 알 수 있듯이 그의 작품 세계는 철저히 그의 생각을 반영한다.


릭 오웬스의 역사
 릭 오웬스는 자신의 레이블을 런청하기 전까지는 록 스타들의 옷을 만드는 디자이너 였다. 이후 1994년 자신만의 브랜드 릭 오웬스를 론칭하면서 본격적인 디자이너의 길을 걷게 되었고, 2002년 뉴욕에서 첫 번째 컬렉션을 시작함과 동시에 패션 디자인 어워드인 CFDA에서 'New Talent Award'까지 거머쥐면서 유명세를 타기 시작한다. 릭 오웬스는 가죽 제품을 많이 선보이는 자신의 중심 라인 릭오웬스와 데님 라인인 DRKSHDW(다크쉐도우), 실크를 활용한 저지 소재 아이템들을 선보이는 LILIES(릴리스), 퍼를 중심으로 다루는 최고급 라인인 PALAOS ROYAL(팔레로얄)까지 총 네 개의 라인으로 구성된다. 최근 릭 오웬스는 미니멀하고 구조적인 디자인의 가구
컬렉션까지 선보이며 디자인 영역을 넓히고 있다.

George Nelson, 1948-1960

Belief in progress and growing economic prosperity were central aspects of the American way of life around 1950. Everything seemed possible, and people strove to be 'modern'. With the aim of bringing modern design into American homes, George Nelson conceived a wide array of everyday objects: lamps, clocks and other domestic accessories. Up until the 1970s, the Nelson office created many different items for the home, including the 'Bubble Lamps' and the 'Ball Clock', which became icons of mid-century modern design.
The Wall Clocks are available in a diverse range of shapes and materials. Equipped with high-quality quartz movements, they are a refreshing alternative to conventional clocks. The perfect model can be found for every occasion among the wide selection of different designs.

George Nelson, born 1908 in Hartford, Connecticut, studied architecture at Yale University. A fellowship enabled him to study at the American Academy in Rome from 1932-34. In Europe he became acquainted with the protagonists and major architectural works of modernism.

He joined the editorial staff of Architectural Forum in 1935, where he was employed until 1944. A programmatic article on residential building and furniture design, published in Architectural Forum by Nelson in 1944, attracted the attention of D.J. DePree, head of the furniture company Herman Miller.

Shortly after this, George Nelson assumed the position of design director at Herman Miller. Remaining there until 1972, he became a key figure of American design, also convincing the likes of Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi and Alexander Girard to work for Herman Miller.

His collaboration with Vitra began in 1957. From 1946 onwards Nelson also ran his own design office, creating numerous products that are now regarded as icons of mid-century modernism.

Nelson's office also produced important architectural works and exhibition designs. George Nelson died in New York in 1986. His archive belongs to the holdings of the Vitra Design Museum.

Verner Panton was one of the most influential figures in the development of design during the 1960s and 1970s. Along with his experimental approach to forms and colours, he was captivated by the potential of plastic, a novel material at the time. His aim was to create a comfortable chair made in one piece that could be used anywhere. After searching for a manufacturer for several years, Panton came into contact with Vitra in 1963. Together they developed the Panton Chair, which was first presented in 1967.
Serial production of the Panton Chair commenced in 1967. It was hailed as a sensation and received numerous prizes. One of the earliest models is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Today the Panton Chair is regarded as a classic of modern furniture design. The original version of the chair in rigid polyurethane foam with a glossy lacquer finish is marketed under the name Panton Chair Classic.







VERNER PANTON

 
 
 
 
Verner Panton, born 1926 in Gamtofte, Denmark, studied at Odense Technical College before enrolling at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen as an architecture student.

He worked from 1950-52 in the architectural firm of Arne Jacobsen, and founded an independent studio for architecture and design in 1955. His furniture designs for the firm Plus-linje attracted attention with their geometric forms. In the following years Panton created numerous designs for seating furniture and lighting.

His passion for bright colours and geometric patterns manifested itself in an extensive range of textile designs. By fusing the elements of a room—floor, walls, ceiling, furnishings, lighting, textiles, wall panels made of enamel or plastic—into a unified gesamtkunstwerk, Panton's interior installations have attained legendary status. The most famous examples are the "Visiona" ship installations for the Cologne Furniture Fair (1968 and 1970), the Spiegel publishing headquarters in Hamburg (1969) and the Varna restaurant in Aarhus (1970).

Panton's collaboration with Vitra began in the early 1960s, when the firm decided to develop what became his best-known design, the Panton Chair, which was introduced in 1967. This was also the first independently developed product by Vitra.

Verner Panton died in 1998 in Copenhagen. Vitra's re-edition of designs by Panton, as well as the retrospective of his work mounted by the Vitra Design Museum in 2000, bear witness to the special relationship between Vitra and Verner Panton.
